About Us

The Joplin High School Class of 1986 represents a unique and historic moment in the story of Joplin, Missouri. For nearly two decades, the city’s students were divided between two rival schools—Parkwood High School and Memorial High School—after enrollment growth led to the original Joplin High School splitting in 1968. In the fall of the 1985–1986 school year, those two schools were brought back together, once again forming a single Joplin High School. The Class of ’86 became the first graduating class of this newly unified school, helping merge traditions, friendships, and school spirit into one community.

Once an Eagle; Always an Eagle

The transition created a special bond among the students who experienced it firsthand. Former Parkwood Bears and Memorial Eagles came together under one banner as the Joplin Eagles, creating new memories while honoring the traditions of both schools. For many students, the year represented more than just graduation—it marked the beginning of a new chapter for Joplin High School and the entire community.

Today, the Class of ’86 continues to celebrate the friendships and shared experiences that began in those hallways decades ago. Reunions and gatherings offer opportunities to reconnect, relive the stories that shaped their high school years, and celebrate the legacy of the first class to unite Joplin High School once again.
